Early Years Gold City Bass Singer Passes Away

CARTERSVILLE, GA(Singing News) - Longtime gospel bass singer and quartet man, Harold McVey, died Monday, Feb. 18, following his third bout with cancer. He was 71 years old and a resident of Cartersville, Georgia.
Recently, Harold was manager and owner of the Common Grace Quartet (now Master Peace) and a long time faithful member of the Canton Road Church of God. In the early 1980s, Harold McVey sang bass for Gold City between Dallas Gilliland and Tim Riley. One of the founding Gold City members, Bob Oliver, remembers McVey fondly: "Harold traveled with us for approximately three months and was a great asset to the group. I have spoken to Harold a few times over the years and admire him very much. He is a fine bass singer. He will be greatly missed here, but he is a tremendous addition to the Heavenly Choir."
Harold McVey was born on December 10, 1936, in Fannin County, Georgia. He is survived by his wife, Ruth McVey of Cartersville, a daughter and son in law, Karen and Steve Jones of Cartersville, four sisters, Helen Jones and Thelma Hardin, both of Cartersville, Mary Ruth Sisson of Griffin, Jo Jones of Epworth, two brothers, Hertis McVey of Ellijay, Jimmy McVey of Blue Ridge and a number of nieces and nephews.
